If you do a lot of painting using commercial plastic paint tray liners add a lot of convenience to a dull task. They're not terribly expensive, around $1 each, but you can get the same results by lining your painting tray with aluminum foil; this should cost around nine centers per liner.
This tip comes from DIY Network's weblog The Pegboard. The author forgot to pick up liners and postulated that aluminum foil might work. He hasn't bought any commercial liners since.
