GOLDRUNNER: THE FED, DEBT, AND GOLD- Pt. 2 - munKNEE.com

?

?. . . . . .BACK TO ROTHSCHILD?S COMMENTS

Think about it.? ?Give me control of a nation?s money, and I care not who makes its laws.?? Control of the money is control of everything.? By the Central Banks deciding whether to aggressively print paper currency in the K-Wave Winter, or when it cannot print when the Dollar was tied to Gold- is control over whether we will have ?inflation or deflation.?? ?Money? to the people and to the economy is like water is to plants.? Plenty of money and the economy blooms- lack of money and the economy ?recedes? or worsens to depression.

Let?s take that another step.? Since the Fed has the control of the money, it knows in advance what it will do.? Thus, the Fed Banks have very powerful legal inside information that they can make business decisions upon, and that they can invest upon.? Thus, one might suggest that the Fed Banks can front-run everything that they do while taking no risk, whatsoever!? Ever wonder how paper gold can be shorted while the price rises substantially, and then suddenly the price drops precipitously based on news, or lack of news, from the Fed? ? ?No risk whatsoever???..??? How would you like to know with practically 100% certainty in advance before interest rate declines started?? How would you like to know in advance that rates were going to be raised?? How would you like to know in advance exactly on what day of what month the Fed will whisper ?QE??? This is the reality of the history of the markets for some.

Considering the above, and knowing that the Central Banks were reported to be heavily accumulating Gold during the tail end of the recent Gold correction, do you want to be long Gold?? Go do some research!

A common perception of investors is ?Don?t fight the Fed!?? Since they control everything by controlling the money, that concept does NOT change in this part of the cycle.? There is one last concept that we need to cover to give a more complete picture of how the ?cycle plays out.?? For now, the Fed is aggressively printing Dollars to devalue the Dollar.? Gold and Silver go parabolic as the Dollar printing turns parabolic.? Commodities in general have nice rises, but nothing like Gold and Silver since BIG Money goes after Gold in this environment while smaller investors and Big Speculators to after more volatile Silver.? Once Gold goes parabolic to devalue the debt and to balance the budget of the US: the the economy starts to turn, loans start to increase, and real estate starts to revive along with all of the more ?economy sensitive asset classes.?? The DJIA has basically moved sideways with great volatility, but once the economy starts to recover then earnings and dividend increases will offer ?real value? to the DJIA stocks.? Then, like post 1929 Era and post the 1970?s, the cycle suggests that the DJIA will go up around 10X over many years.? Thus, there is a regular rotation of where ?value is seen? in the long-term cycle.

[The above is just a collection of things I find interesting.? If the above is true, it is ?legal inside information? based on the quasi-governmental groups involved.? I am not ?passing judgment?, just tossing out what I think is a major reason that most investors might want to be invested in Gold, in Silver, and in Gold and Silver Stocks.? In fact, the above is the major reason I think we all should be invested in Gold and in Silver. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . connect the dots!]

In my opinion, the best way to invest in a managed market (a tip of the hat to Steve Kennedy-SCPAK) is to ?front-run the front-runners.?? That is precisely what the fractal work is intended to do.? The above is a very short summation of a series of articles I have provided readers on my subscription site.

Protect yourself!? Buy Gold, Buy Silver, and Buy Gold and Silver Stocks!

1 In 2 Employers Knowingly Hired Convicted Criminals - Careers ...

employers hiring criminals

By Debra Auerbach

More than 92 million individuals have a criminal history on file in state criminal history repositories, according to the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Statistics. Having a criminal past can potentially haunt someone's future, especially when it comes to seeking employment. Yet a new CareerBuilder survey shows that companies are open to giving people second chances.

According to the study, 51 percent of human-resource managers reported that their organizations have hired someone with a criminal record. The study included 2,298 U.S. hiring managers and human-resource professionals ages 18 and over and was conducted between May 14 and June 4, 2012.

Getting Back On The Right Career Path

Even with this encouraging statistic, job seekers with a criminal background may still face hurdles during their job search. But there are steps they can take to show that they're committed, hard-working and ready to restart their career. The first step? Being transparent about their history.

"The No. 1 recommendation hiring managers have is to own your past and focus on what you learned from it to grow professionally and personally," says Rosemary Haefner, vice president of human resources at CareerBuilder. "You also want to stay active. Taking classes, volunteering and tapping into social networks can be good ways to help overcome obstacles associated with job hunting with a criminal past."

More: Employers More Likely To Hire Criminal Than Unemployed [Infographic]

Making Themselves More Marketable

The survey asked hiring managers to share what job seekers with criminal records can do to make themselves more marketable to employers.

Here's what they recommend:

  • Be upfront and honest about the conviction and stress what you learned from it -- 68 percent.
  • Be willing to work your way up -- 48 percent.
  • Stay positive -- 46 percent.
  • Prepare while you're in prison (take classes, get a degree or participate in vocational training) -- 39 percent.
  • Don't apply to jobs where your record would automatically disqualify you -- 31 percent
  • Volunteer -- 31 percent.
  • Take freelance or temporary assignments -- 26 percent.
  • Consider joining the military -- 18 percent.
  • Start your own business -- 16 percent.
  • Monitor what is said on social media -- 13 percent.

For more information and resources about jobs searching with a record, job seekers can contact their state unemployment office to be connected with a case manager specializing in jobs for ex-offenders. Job seekers should also research local human services organizations in their area for additional programs and support.

Cyber Attacks Hit Online Banking Sites ? CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - David Childs, a Dallas composer, is never far from his laptop. He uses it for banking, correspondence, even composing. But, he and millions of customers across North Texas and the nation this week have been faced with slowed response times on many banking sites.

?I did notice it has been a little bit slow,? says Childs. ?I just put it down to regular slow traffic.?

But, internet security experts say online traffic to some of the nation?s largest banks has been slowed because of a massive cyber attack intended to jam access to those sites. It?s called a D-D-O-S: distributed denial of service.

?And that?s where they don?t really break into or hack into the bank systems, so information is not compromised. However, it?s like someone blocking the door to the bank,? says Professor Amit Basu. Professor Basu holds the Carr Collins Chair in Management Information Systems at SMU?s Cox School of Business.

He says although no individual accounts were compromised, these attacks are still taken seriously in the business community because customer confidence in the online arena is critical. ?It?s a serious concern, because these are the kinds of attacks that are very difficult to prevent? it?s scary.?

The source of the attack is believed to be outside the country. But, efforts to link the attack to unrest in the Middle East have been called premature.

Bottom line: customers like David Childs say the occasional disruption won?t scare them away. The convenience of online banking is hard to resist.

?I don?t know what we?d do without banking online. I don?t think we?d survive quite as well, so. ?

Goldman to pay $12 million to settle "pay-to-play" probe

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs Group Inc will pay about $12 million to settle charges it violated "pay-to-play" rules, in a case involving campaign contributions to ex-Massachusetts state treasurer, Timothy Cahill, who was a candidate for governor in the state, U.S. securities regulators said on Thursday.

Neil Morrison, a former vice president in Goldman's Boston office, worked extensively on Cahill's 2010 campaign while also soliciting underwriting business from the Massachusetts treasurer's office, the Securities and Exchange Commission said.

Pay-to-play refers to cash or other contributions made to officials to influence the award of lucrative public contracts.

In what the SEC described as its first "pay-to-play" case involving contributions other than cash, Goldman settled without admitting or denying the charges.

The SEC also charged Morrison, and the case against him continues.

A Goldman spokesman, Michael DuVally, said in a statement that the firm had detected Morrison's activities, fired him, and cooperated with regulators.

"We accept responsibility for the consequences of his unauthorized actions under the terms of the settlements announced today and are pleased to resolve these investigations," DuVally said.

A lawyer for Morrison did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The case has drawn Goldman into the legal morass that has surrounded Cahill since he lost his gubernatorial bid to incumbent Deval Patrick.

In April, Cahill was indicted on criminal public corruption charges for allegedly using the state's taxpayer-funded lottery advertising budget to boost his sagging campaign.

An attorney for Cahill, Jeffrey Denner, said he had not reviewed the SEC documents, and would have no comment since the order did not directly name Cahill as a defendant.

'REWARD LOYALTY'

The case describes how Morrison conducted campaign activities for Cahill, including fundraising, drafting speeches, and speaking to reporters, and how some of this work was done from Goldman's offices during business hours.

During the 13 months through October 2010, Morrison sent at least 364 campaign-related emails using his Goldman Sachs email account.

The campaign work gave Morrison access to Cahill and his staff, who provided him internal information about the underwriter selection process, the SEC said.

Morrison also directly discussed his campaign work in relation to securing business for Goldman Sachs in emails, according to SEC documents.

"From my standpoint as an advisor/consultant/friend, I am saying, PLEASE don't give these (underwriter) slots away willy-nilly," Morrison wrote in one email to an official in Cahill's office. "You are in the fight of your lives and need to reward loyalty and encourage friendship."

That work also disqualified Goldman from bidding for municipal underwriting business with certain issuers in the state. But Goldman went on to participate in 30 prohibited underwritings, earning it more than $7.5 million in fees, the SEC said.

Robert Khuzami, who heads the SEC's enforcement division, said in a statement: "The "pay-to-play" rules are clear: Municipal finance professionals that use their firm's resources to campaign on behalf of political candidates compromise themselves and the firms that employ them."

The SEC has undertaken a broader crackdown of "pay-to-play" practices in recent years. In 2010, it adopted new measures that target activities of investment advisers who seek out contracts to manage public pension plans and other types of investment accounts.

Naming a Boat

A bit of history

Thousands of years ago boats were named to honour a god, in order to safeguard them from peril. Their fear and superstition convinced them that the gods would protect them if they pleased them in this way. Similarly early Christians would name boats after saints.

The tradition of naming boats after women could have started as the belief in ancient gods faded and the practice of using names of goddesses changed gradually into using everyday female names instead. Another idea is that in some languages, boats or ships were "feminine" objects, grammatically, hence the practice of referring to them as "she", while a female name might also imply the provider of comfort and calm in a potentially dangerous situation.

It was probably the ancient Greeks and Romans who first used wine to christen a boat before it was launched, as an offering to the gods. This was just one part of an elaborate ritual which also incorporated parties, speeches, toasts and prayers. Animal and even human sacrifices were included in some cultures. There were also superstitions about the procedures, for instance, it was thought that the best time to name a ship was at high tide, when the sun was out, or when there was a full moon. Champagne has now taken the place of wine and it has become a tradition that a woman performs the naming ceremony, becoming the sponsor or godmother.

The process of re-naming a boat has traditionally been thought to bring bad luck. To avoid this, the boat had to be de-named by removing all references to the old name, such as log book and papers. Any items such as lifebuoys, dinghy, oars etc could be reused only if the name was completely and permanently removed. It was also considered appropriate to wait a whole day before giving the boat its new name. There are stories describing how these procedures have been taken to what seem like ridiculously superstitious limits. I have read that sometimes the de-naming became a party with friends and witnesses and the aim was to purge all traces of the old name from the ledger, kept by Poseidon, the ruler of the seas. A metal tag was prepared with the old name written on it in water-soluble ink. Poseidon's name was invoked and he was requested to expunge from his memory and records all traces of the old name. The metal tag was then dropped into the sea followed by half a bottle of champagne (sparkling wine would not do) pouring from East to West. The remainder of the champagne was then consumed. The re-naming would be completed in a similar manner invoking other gods and winds and involving more quantities of champagne. No item bearing the new name of the boat could be allowed on board until the purging and renaming ceremonies had been completed.

Naming a boat today

There are no laws in most countries that restrict you from choosing a boat name that is already in use and it can be as long or short as you like. Many boat owners spend a fortune on buying a boat and then name it without considering the implications. Most people like to choose a name which has a special significance to them, which is fine but it should not be so long or obscure that it is not memorable and most importantly they should consider what their boat name will sound like repeated several times over the VHF radio. When calling for help, a short, easy-to-remember name could really help in an emergency, while some names could actually antagonise the rescue authorities (see later). Complicated spellings can also cause confusion, especially when you are using the phonetic alphabet to call the Coastguard in a crisis.

Many people name their boats after important people in their lives such as a wife or girl friend. Others choose something they think will bring them luck, or use a reference to how they obtained the boat, such as a lottery win, or the stock market. Some include a reference to their business, to help advertise their company. Many people now have cleverly made up names, involving nautically spelled words. Names such as Knotaclew, Nautibuoy and Legasea are easy to read and to remember, but maybe Annaweighwego or the German boat Fahrfrum Wurkenare just a bit too clever.

If you have a really good name for your old boat which you want to use on the replacement, that is quite alright, although some people like to use a numeral after the name.

What names not to use

Don't tempt providence. Names like Bottoms Up and On the rocks may seem clever at the time, and naming your boat after something like the Titanic or Lusitania is just asking for the worst to happen.

If you are going to name a boat after a wife or girlfriend, make sure she is happy about it. She may not share your love of boating or wish to share her name. On the other hand, if you tell people you are taking The Other Woman out, they might get the wrong idea and you could be heading for a divorce.

Make sure that your chosen name is not offensive or rude. Consider whether it will be appropriate for kids to use and clients to see. You don't want to embarrass friends when they are using the name.

Avoid names already in use at your local marina or harbour. This could result in a lot of confusion.

Imagine what your boat name would sound like when repeated many times over the VHF in a call to the Coastguard or Harbour master and remember, all the other boats within range will hear it too. Names such as Knott again, Knott Awake or Knott Now could make you sound irritable and rude, while Get Reel or About Time may seem clever but could be interpreted as sarcastic or abusive.

Remember that your boat name will become your name. People you meet will remember you by your boat,so would you be happy for your crew to be referred to as the Aquaholics?

Some boat names sound lovely until you have to use them in a particular context. Then you could become a laughing stock. Imagine the romantic sounding Passing Wind calling the coastguard while navigating the Looe channel. He asks, "What is your position?" You reply "We're Passing Wind in the Looe".

Registering your boat

There are no rules or regulations on the naming of pleasure boats and it is not compulsory to register the name in the UK, the USA or Canada (unless you wish to do so) or to even have a name for your boat. If you do want to register in the UK you can do so with the UK Ship Register, but in that case every boat must have a unique name, so you will need to provide a list of potential names in order of preference. It is easy to find out online about the types of registration and the cost.

On the other hand you might decide that it could be more useful to join the HM Coastguard's voluntary safety identification scheme, CG66, run by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). This provides the Coastguard with vital information about your boat, so that in an emergency you can place a Mayday call and the information about your boat, which the Coastguard already has, will help him to respond quickly. The scheme is free to join and you can register online. Details about your boat are kept on the database record for 2 years and the information is used for search and rescue and safety purposes only.

In conclusion

If you are "Reel Determined" and "Crave a Wave" to find your "Sea-Cret Hide Aweigh" and have some "Reel Fun", even if your boat is "Knot Paid 1V", "No Prop-lem". "Y Knot?"

Rep. Tom Tancredo has a good op-ed with a reminder of why small provisions of the immigration law with give-aways are sometimes the hardest to eliminate. Recently, the House failed to pass a measure that would have eliminated the diversity lottery in favor of a program for post-graduate foreign students.

High Majority of Ohio Voters Say Immigration Issue Important in Election

In a voter survey by the Washington Post, 20 percent of voters in Ohio who were surveyed said immigration was extremely important in the election, and another 31 percent said it was very important.

Legal Workers Move to Alabama After Law Takes Effect

?Esene Manga, an Eritrean refugee living in Atlanta, hadn?t heard of Albertville, Alabama until a recruiter offered him a job there. Now Manga, 22, earns $10.85 an hour cutting chicken breasts on a poultry-plant night shift, an unexpected beneficiary of a year-old law designed to drive out illegal Hispanic immigrants,? BusinessWeek reports.

?This isn?t what the law?s backers said would happen. Republican state Senator Scott Beason, a sponsor, said at a news conference last year that the restrictions on undocumented workers would ?put thousands of native Alabamians back in the work force? [. . .] Plants sought refugees because too few local residents were interested or qualified, said Frank Singleton, a spokesman for Wayne Farms, based in Oakwood, Georgia.?

Democrats? Pre-Emptive Excuse for Low Hispanic Turnout Takes Shape

?Leaders of the U.S. immigrant community said they are concerned about the possible demobilization of the Latino vote in the November election. ?If you don?t go vote, use your voice in the democracy, it means that you have lost hope and are voluntarily giving up your political power,? Joshua Hoyt, co-president of the National Partnership for New Americans, told Efe on Monday.
Hoyt is among some 800 experts, activists and community leaders gathering in Baltimore this week for the National Immigrant Integration Conference 2012.?

Tancredo ? Time to End the Diversity Lottery

?Currently, America accepts over one million permanent legal immigrants and nearly as many temporary workers each year. Most of these immigrants are not selected based upon their skills or what they will contribute to this country, but through the process of family reunification. I suspect that many who claim that immigration is complicated do so because they know that if the issue were to presented to the American people with simple facts, they would demand that immigration be reprioritized and reduced,? says former Rep. Tom Tancredo in an op-ed.

Report: Premium hikes for top Medicare drug plans

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Millions of seniors enrolled in some of the most popular Medicare prescription drug plans face double-digit premium hikes next year if they don't shop for a better deal, says a private firm that analyzes the highly competitive market.

Seven of the top 10 prescription plans are raising their premiums by 11 percent to 23 percent, according to a report this week by Avalere Health.

It's a reality check on a stream of upbeat Medicare announcements from the Obama administration, all against the backdrop of a hard-fought election. In August, officials had announced that the average premium for basic prescription drug coverage will stay the same in 2013, at $30 a month.

The administration's number is accurate as an overall indicator for the entire market, but not very helpful to consumers individually since it doesn't reflect price swings in the real world.

"The average senior is going to benefit by carefully scrutinizing their situation, because every year the market changes," Avalere President Dan Mendelson said. Avalere crunched the numbers based on bid documents that the plans submitted to Medicare.

The report found premium increases for all top 10 prescription drug plans, known as PDPs. However, the most popular plan ? AARP MedicareRx Preferred ? is only going up 57 cents per month nationally, to $40.42 from the current $39.85.

President Barack Obama's health care law does not appear to be the cause of the increases. Indeed, the law is improving the prescription benefit by gradually closing a coverage gap called the "doughnut hole," which catches people with high drug costs. Instead, the price hikes appear to be driven by market dynamics, and some insurers are introducing new low-premium options to gain a competitive advantage on plans that are raising their prices.

The seven plans with double-digit premium increases were: the Humana Walmart-Preferred Rx Plan (23 percent); First Health Part D Premier (18 percent); First Health Part D Value Plus (17 percent); Cigna Medicare Rx Plan One (15 percent); Express Scripts Medicare-Value (13 percent); the HealthSpring Prescription Drug Plan (12 percent); and Humana Enhanced (11 percent).

Another two plans in the top 10 also had single-digit increases. They were the SilverScript Basic (8 percent) and WellCare Classic (3 percent).

On the plus side for consumers, a major new low-cost plan entered the market. Premiums for the AARP MedicareRx Saver Plus Plan will average $15 a month nationally, although it won't be available everywhere. That's $3.50 less than the current low-cost leader, the Humana Walmart plan, whose premiums are rising to $18.50.

The new AARP plan is run by UnitedHealth Group Inc., the nation's largest health insurance company. United pays AARP for the right to use its name on a range of Medicare insurance products, a successful business strategy that has proven lucrative for both partners. When Humana and Walmart teamed up to offer their low-cost plan in 2011, United felt the competition.

"There is a real focus on the premium in this market," Mendelson said. "If a plan fields an offering with a low premium, it knows it can capture a significant number of customers."

Medicare spokesman Brian Cook did not dispute the Avalere estimates. "We continue to encourage seniors to shop around and find the plan that works best for them," he said.

Medicare's open enrollment season starts Oct. 15, and beneficiaries have a wide variety of choices of taxpayer-subsidized private prescription plans. Seniors and family members can use the online Medicare Plan Finder to input individual prescription lists and find plans in their area that cover them.

About 90 percent of Medicare's nearly 50 million beneficiaries have some form of drug coverage, with more than 17 million enrolled in private plans through the prescription drug program. Of those, 14 million are in the top 10 plans.

The Avalare numbers, released Monday, do have one silver lining for the Obama administration. When the projections are tweaked to account for seniors switching to lower-cost coverage, premiums for 2013 are likely to remain steady.

Separately, the administration recently announced that average premiums for Medicare Advantage insurance plans will barely inch up next year on average, while enrollment in the private medical plans will continue to rise. Many Medicare Advantage plans also combine prescription drug coverage in one package deal.

But the biggest premium announcement is yet to come.

Virtually all seniors pay the Part B premium for outpatient care, including those with traditional Medicare as well as those in private plans. Currently $99.90 a month, the Part B premium is expected to rise by about $7 for 2013, according to the government's own projections.

In order to determine whether or not the real estate broker you?re working with is right for you, discuss their definitions of successes and failures. Find out what criteria they use to determine their results. Strive to understand the various strategies that they employ. You should only partner up with a broker if there is common ground in your shared beliefs and thinking.

Tables turn on Spain with pressure to seek bailout

BRUSSELS/MADRID (Reuters) - Spain once pushed hard for Ireland and Portugal to ask for bailouts from their partners in the euro because it was keen to shelter itself from an accelerating sovereign debt crisis.

Now the tables are turned and Madrid is holding back from applying for help, not least because the Spanish government knows all too well what befell its Portuguese and Irish peers once they did seek help -- voters dumped them.

Facing an important regional election on October 21, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy is in no rush to yield to nervous pleas, from France, Italy and indeed Ireland, that he request a rescue deal that might dampen investors' concerns about their own debt.

Dublin and Lisbon fought shy of EU and IMF help for long months in 2010-11, fuelling turmoil in the bond markets, in forlorn attempts to avoid a humiliating loss of sovereignty and lenders' demands that they draft unpopular budgets.

Now Rajoy, in office for nine months, is doing the reverse of what his Spanish predecessors urged on others, and insisting Madrid may not need help -- at any rate not right now.

Part of the procrastination is down to Rajoy's personality. The dour conservative Gallego from rainy northwestern Spain built his career on digging in his heels and letting everyone else wear themselves out until he decides he's ready to act.

People in Rajoy's homeland, Galicia, are renowned for being noncommittal and answering a question with a question. Meet a Gallego on the stairs, a Spanish saying goes, and it's hard to tell whether he is going up or coming down.

"Rajoy is resistant. That's his life. He prefers to take a bad decision in three months to taking a good one tomorrow," said a former government official from Rajoy's People's Party.

Such is Rajoy's poker-faced ambiguity that even longtime associates cannot tell when he will come off the fence.

This month's offer of potential support from the European Central Bank has eased Spain's borrowing costs somewhat, giving Rajoy a breathing space. Germany, whose voters dislike funding bailouts, has also made clear there should be no rush.

But tension remains, with those leaders most concerned about their own debt levels fretting that Spanish delay could unsettle markets and raise the risks they too may need some form of help.

"Spain was much in favor of moving quickly in the case of Portugal, to cut contagion," said a senior euro zone official, recalling pressure from Madrid in the months before Lisbon finally applied for a bailout program in April.

"It's clear that countries such as France and Italy would like to see a request from Spain coming soon," the official said. "But Germany, for instance, is clearly not in hurry."

CHAIN REACTION

In Portugal, domestic banks played a part in pushing a reluctant government into the arms of the IMF by disclosing that the European Central Bank had urged them not to increase their exposure to Lisbon's debt.

Spain's big banks are starting to play a similar role in pressuring Rajoy.

The government should seek precautionary credit "the sooner the better," Francisco Gonzalez, the influential chairman of giant Spanish bank BBVA, said on Thursday.

Rome and Paris reason that the sooner Spain applies for help, the smaller the damage to investor confidence in the euro zone as a whole and the greater the chance of finally breaking the chain reaction of debt crunches.

Wary of hurting Spanish pride, officials are using diplomatic language to convey the message.

"We have to respect the fact that Europe is made of 27 member states and each of them is sovereign and it is particularly true in the case of an important and proud country like Spain," French Finance Minister Pierre Moscovici said.

"But if at one stage they want something from the European Union, the tools are there," he told Reuters TV last week.

Irish Finance Minister Michael Noonan was slightly more explicit. "I'd like them to set out their position because it hasn't been clear over the summer what their position is," Noonan said ahead of a euro zone finance ministers' meeting in Cyprus on Sept 14-15.

Ireland, which Spain pressed to accept a foreign bailout in late 2010, has its own reasons to want Madrid to follow suit. It is concerned a shaky euro zone debt market will thwart Dublin's hopes of returning to the open market to raise funds next year.

A contrary logic is coming from Berlin, where the government faces an election in a year's time. With public opinion against paying to bail out other states, Germany insists the euro zone rescue funds -- the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) and the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) -- are not mere conveniences to provide cheaper funding for governments.

For Germans, the funds are a last resort and as long as Spain can finance itself on the market and yields are relatively stable, albeit high, then using the bailout method to help Spain would be difficult to sell to the German parliament.

Austrian Finance Minister Maria Fekter made that case last week when she said: "The goal is not to get as many countries as possible under a program, but to keep them stable enough so that they do not need a program."

Investors now charge Spain more than one percentage point less in interest for 10-year bonds since the ECB said it could buy potentially unlimited quantities of short-term bonds on the secondary market.

But ECB action is conditional on a Spanish application to the euro zone bailout funds and an agreement to implement fiscal and economic reforms under strict international supervision.

Some investors are counting on Spain asking for a bailout at an EU summit on October 18-19. But several EU officials in Brussels said they expected Rajoy to wait until after a regional election in his home state of Galicia on October 21, when his party has a chance of winning a full majority in the local parliament.

To reduce the stigma of being told how to fix its economy by outsiders, Spain will present a new package of reforms later this week, as well as a budget for 2013.

This could enable Rajoy to apply for a bailout to unlock ECB bond-buying if yields start to rise again while keeping any new conditions to a minimum and reducing political embarrassment. The big question is how long the markets are prepared to wait.

As France's Moscovici said last week: "My impression is that we still have a bit of time."

State Dept. slams report on ambassador's diary

A State Department spokesman sharply criticized CNN on Saturday, saying the network had reported on the diary of American ambassador Christopher Stevens after his death at the U.S. consulate in Libya despite the objections of his family.

State Department spokesman Philippe Reines said CNN took Stevens' personal journal from the site where he and three other Americans were killed in an armed attack in Benghazi on Sept. 11 and used it in reporting on the story despite the express wishes of his family members.

"Whose first instinct is to remove from a crime scene the diary of a man killed along with three other Americans serving our country, read it, transcribe it, email it around your newsroom for others to read, and only when their curiosity is fully satisfied thinks to call the family or notify the authorities?" Reines said in a statement.

CNN responded that it did not initially report on the existence of the journal out of respect for the family, but ultimately "felt there were issues raised in the journal which required full reporting."

"We think the public had a right to know what CNN had learned from multiple sources about the fears and warnings of a terror threat before the Benghazi attack which are now raising questions about why the State Department didn't do more to protect Ambassador Stevens and other U.S. personnel," CNN said in a written statement emailed to Reuters.

"Perhaps the real question here is why the State Department is now attacking the messenger," CNN said in the statement.

Protesting Libyans overrun militant compound

In a story posted on its website, CNN reported that it found the journal on the floor of the consulate compound, which it said was "largely unsecured."

CNN described the diary as seven pages of handwriting in a hand-bound book and said it contained tips about the situation in Libya that the network corroborated with other sources.

Many Muslims denouncing anti-Islam film decry violent protests, too

In his statement, Reines said that CNN staffers asked Stevens' family members at least several times in phone calls if the network could report on the contents and were repeatedly told that the family wanted to see it first.

"But the Stevens family was never given that chance. I guess four days was as long as CNN could control themselves, so they just went ahead and used it. Entirely because they felt like it," he said.

Do You Consider A Slap Domestic Violence? | The Yolanda Adams ...

The other day I did my normal web browsing to catch up on the latest celeb gossip. I saw an interview with Ariane from ?Love and Hip Hop Atlanta? did with Power 105.1?s morning show, ?The Breakfast Club.? I don?t know much about her, but from the little I gathered via the show, she seemed like a cool chick and loyal friend. She constantly told her BFF Mimi Faust?who was in a one-sided relationship with former producer Stevie J (*shivers*)?how beautiful she was and how she deserved more. I credited Ariane as being one of the few with sense?until I saw this interview.

Get Breaking News On Your Phone?Text ?Yolanda? To 23092

The hosts?DJ Envy, Charlamagne tha God and Angela Yee asked about her thoughts on the whole K. Michelle/Memphitz debacle and she went on to explain how she was friends with both parties and couldn?t legitimately form an opinion because she wasn?t there at the time of the incident. Cool, I get that. What blew me completely off guard, though, was when she very matter-of-factly responded, ?Absolutely!? the unfiltered controversy-fiend Charlamagne said, ?She might have did something to get beat up.?

Wait! What? To justify her statement, she then said, ?I?m not saying that women should be hit, but sometimes b*tches need to be slapped.? Very nonchalantly, she admitted to being slapped before. When asked what she?d done to get slapped?assuming there?s actually a good enough reason?she replied, ?You know, my mouth is kind of reckless sometimes.? Another enthusiastic and assured ?absolutely!? followed when she was asked if she felt as though she deserved it. In utter shock, I watched the rest of the interview but couldn?t really digest it because I was still trying to swallow her thoughts regarding domestic violence.

Did you see the interview? Watch it below. Skip to about the 10:40 mark for Ariane?s opinion on domestic abuse in regards to K. Michelle and Memphitz.

I get that there are some crazy, ruthless ladies and gents out here, but unless you are put in a life or death situation and forced to defend yourself for survival, there?s never an acceptable reason to physically harm another human being?regardless of gender. ??My mouth is kind of reckless sometimes? is certainly not grounds for ?b*tches needing to be slapped!?

Though Ariane?s thinking disturbs me, I accept the fact that she?s a grown woman and entitled to her own views?regardless of how outrageous I think they are. What stirs me up though is that she so comfortably and immaturely voiced them on the #1 urban radio morning show in the country. I?m support people verbalizing their thoughts, but some things are just better left unsaid.

Reality stars are like the new celebrity (I know, I know. It pains me to admit too). Though not a household name, Ariane has nearly 50,000 Twitter followers as of now so it?s safe to assume that she has solid, little fan base going on. With so many impressionable youngsters glorifying the life of reality TV stars, sending the message that it?s ?okay? if a person physically violates them is irresponsible and dangerous.

In a society that already negates the severity of domestic violence, such a comment only perpetuates our insensitivity regarding the social ill. ?Every nine seconds in the U.S., a woman is assaulted or beaten? and ?every day in the U.S., more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends,? according to Domestic Violence Statistics. Domestic violence generally happens in stages: Verbal, next a push or shove, then a ?needed? slap or punch, a few broken bones and bruises and eventually death is the final step.

Ariane ended the interview saying that she?d have a larger role on the second season of ?LAHH ATL.? Hopefully she won?t use her new platform to spread more ignorant and regressive views. If so, we all need to be concerned.

What are your thoughts on Ariane?s comments? Do women sometimes just ?need to be slapped??

Small businesses display a distinct set of weaknesses that make them particularly attractive to opportunistic hackers.

Small businesses display a distinct set of weaknesses that make them particularly attractive to opportunistic hackers.

Organizations have felt the effects of cybercrime?s expansion and maturation for a number of years, but conventional wisdom often assumes these risks are mostly the concern of large corporations and governments. A recent InformationWeek report argued, however, that small businesses display a distinct set of weaknesses that make them particularly attractive to opportunistic hackers.

Small businesses, which are more likely to rely on third-party cloud computing services and BYOD (Bring your own Device) policies than large enterprises, are also less likely than larger companies to have detailed security policies in place. This factor only increases the odds of success for social engineering and other advanced attacks that prey on employee negligence.

Choosing easy targets
Large companies may offer a bigger payoff to a successful hacker, but their security measures are larger and better-funded too, according to InformationWeek columnist Tim Wilson. Small businesses, by contrast, offer a more attractive target, Wilson said, since their defenses are less sophisticated. Similarly, lower-level employees, not just CEOs, can often provide cybercriminals with all the access they need to cash in on a business? restricted data.

?Cybercriminals are looking for low-hanging fruit,? Wilson wrote. ?Their targets are companies with poor defenses, a lack of security skills, and vulnerable end users. They're looking for unlocked doors and open windows. The path of least resistance will always be the one most beaten down by bad guys.?

Identifying common vulnerabilities
InformationWeek?s report identified 10 specific cybersecurity threats facing small businesses. Common themes across multiple attack vectors included negligent employees and failure to patch software.

Unpatched browser plugins or rarely used network utilities like videoconferencing systems are common targets. Neglecting to install software updates can also allow malware to infect small business websites and turn them into malware hubs, which can hurt a business? reputation. InformationWeek pointed out a Symantec study which showed that more than 60 percent of malicious websites are legitimate sites that have been compromised.

Employee behavior is another common vulnerability, according to InformationWeek. Workers can leak important information such as website or banking passwords, on purpose or inadvertently. Targeted attacks by criminals can trick employees into giving up information, while the threat of disgruntled employees attacking the company also exists. A common data security risk in small businesses is using just one or two shared passwords across all databases and applications, InformationWeek said.

The fact that many small businesses have employees who work remotely also poses a problem, as few small businesses invest in mobile device management solutions and remote workers often access work applications via unsecure networks in places such as coffee shops.

A January 2012 Ponemon Institute survey of IT professionals found that employee negligence was the overwhelming root cause of data security risks across all sizes of business. Nearly 80 percent of respondents said that negligent or malicious employee actions had been responsible for a data breach in their organization over the previous two years.

Cloud security is an additional point of concern for small businesses, who are more likely to rely on third-party services than on-site systems.

Preventing small business attacks
Small businesses may not have the same resources at their disposal as a large enterprise, but they can still take advantage of cloud security software services, InformationWeek said. The site also recommended working with a security specialist to draft a company plan.

In order to protect against breaches in third-party systems, InformationWeek noted that experts suggest implementing two layers of authentication, particularly for online banking services.

Mashable, meanwhile, offered the straightforward tips of using complex passwords and taking advantage of mobile device management tools. Both practices are actually easier in small businesses, where there are fewer employees to educate, the site said.
